Have you ever heard the phrase that the opposite of active listening is multi-tasking? That statement makes me feel triggered. lol – just kidding, kind of.
They say studies have shown that multi-tasking isn’t more efficient than focused efforts. So it isn’t just about being present… it actually doesn’t work well.
I’ve been thinking about it and I think multi-tasking may impact our ability to lose weight or stick to a plan.
Here are some examples:
- Eating meals while working – we don’t register that we ate…don’t feel satisfied and don’t have any connection to our food.
- Being distracted around our kids with phones or work – this intensifies mom guilt and makes you less likely to go to the gym or take restorative time for you.
- Juggling 45 house or family chores while you food prep or online grocery shop. You aren’t focused or thinking through what you need and how best to set up your week. So it is winging it WAY more than it should be.
- Juggling follow up communications while you walk or workout. You aren’t getting the mental break to be present in your physical body so it isn’t as enjoyable or positive as it could be.
Those are just a few.
So my question today for my fitme journal is… are you a multi-tasker like me?
How is it impacting your efforts to eat well or take care of yourself? Write me back and tell me!
